Teaching

Comments

I don't know what to say on this one. I just got my first job in a kind-of-teaching field, for the first time in a few years. And every moment I am actually doing it, I adore it. To make it exciting for kids to learn is just such a fulfilling thing. I see so many kids come through my work who don't give a damn, though. They just want to keep moving right through. That doesn't discount the ones who really do appreciate you though. When I was at school, I just know I would have LOVED a teacher like you for my art class!

However, having said that, I am about to quit my "teaching" job only a few weeks after taking it, because the pay and the hours suck so badly. My other job does involve some teaching though. I am going to try and keep looking.

Honestly, even this entry makes me consider again whether to go for my teaching certificate. The things you mention, the time off, the control of my own environment, the chance to just be there and teach.... these things really have huge appeal for me.

Bottom line, even though I have a terribly mercenary side (which you have seen in comments from me before) I think I'd rather be happy than rich. Unfortunately, being too bloody poor and overworked is also its own misery. I hope you can find some sort of balance. Maybe you could be happy in some sort of teaching-related job where you can use those skills and have that kind of autonomy???

Good luck with it all, anyhow.
